If you are searching, but would rather be singing, fantastic! You’ve found us! We are the Australian region of Sweet Adelines International.
Sweet Adelines International is an independent, non-profit music education association and we teach women and people of diverse genders to sing in choruses and quartets. Sweet Adelines is one of the world’s largest singing organisations, with around 15 000 members (in 500 choruses and 1200 quartets) worldwide.
If you like the type of harmonies they sang in Pitch Perfect, then you’re going to love Sweet Adelines. We sing and perform a cappella four-part harmony, including the musical art form of barbershop harmony. We do this through education, competition and performance.
We are one of Australia’s leading musical organisations, and we would love to welcome you as a singer on our risers. Find us and let’s get you singing with us sometime soon!
Around Australia, more than 1100 singers meet up each week in Sweet Adelines choruses to learn, practise and enjoy being part of a wonderful music community – and yes, that’s even during the pandemic lockdowns! If you’re thinking about joining a choir, then consider yourself invited! Come and join the fun, friendship and harmony of an a cappella chorus! If we can’t meet up in person, then we get together for a rehearsal via Zoom.
What is a cappella? A cappella means singing without instruments (so no keyboard or guitar accompaniment). We sing four-part, unaccompanied, close harmony mostly in the barbershop style and mostly songs that are contemporary or favourites from all different genres.
A cappella music can be sung by a quartet, with each singer singing their own part, or by larger groups of anything up to 200 singers – still singing in four parts.
Barbershoppers do more than just sing…we entertain!
With colourful costumes and expressive visuals, we like nothing more than strutting our stuff for a wide range of audiences.
Sweet Adelines Australia currently has around 1100 members, making us the largest region of Sweet Adelines International in the world. Our members sing each week in 27 choruses and more than 50 registered quartets across the nation.
